The Francilianes dairy farm is the only donkey dairy farm in Paris region, the first farm in the Val de Marne to have opted for organic farming. The breeding extends over about 15 hectares of land, conducted in organic production mode, and certified by Certipaq.
The original logic was to work with donkeys, to find something to earn an income from the activity, taking the donkey as a starting point, and to keep the concern for the animal throughout the organization.
Unlike some companies that use donkey milk for purely lucrative purposes (because donkey milk is much more than a fashion phenomenon), the process of setting up the activity consisted in knowing how many animals it was possible to raise, including the time needed to devote to each of them. The next question was how much milk could then be produced, without having to “boost” the donkeys to increase production, in order to consider the income that could be generated.
Beyond the necessary agricultural and commercial activity, a whole project around peri-urban agriculture is being carried out, the return to localism, towards local products manufactured by farmers and/or craftsmen proud of their status and their professions.
In recent years, a store has been set up (sale of donkey’s milk, cosmetics) and a milk processing laboratory is being set up; everything is done at the donkey’s pace, as it should be. Educational workshops are also available.
